2point5 Blog Lives!

Whew! It took a couple of days to rescue all of the archived content from the old tunertricks.com blog that truly provided the momentum to get 2point5 off the ground and provided a place for our followers and customers to see what we were working on, but I really think it was worth it...Below this post, you'll find a number of articles and photos that really tell our history and the story of how we transitioned from being car audio installers to product designers and company owners. Please feel free to click through some of the older posts to see who we are, where we came from, how the product came to be and some other generally fun stuff along the way. From here on out, this will be the place where I continue what I started way back in 2004 (the 3rd gen iPod was the hottest thing going and the iPhone hadn't been dreamed by anyone but those inside Apple yet). Randy and I will use this space to tell the continuing story of 2point5, spec.dock and Material6, as well as to update our customers on the finer details of our products and updates that happen along the way.

I hope you enjoy going through all the old posts, and certainly hope you check in frequently for new content. We've been at this particular endeavor for seven years now, and we're just getting started! Thanks as always for all of your support, and please feel free to let us know what we can do for you!

2point5 - New Model Release: Audi A6

From tunertricks.com May 20, 2008. About a month ago, we put the final touches on a new spec.dock model for the current-bodystyle (2005-up) Audi A6, which mounts in the ashtray, as is typical for most of our models. I really like how this one turned out, and am looking forward to supplying some of these to A6 owners who are looking for an upgrade to their OEM iPod solution or for a way to connect to their Audi in general. I have to say that the integration as far as navigating through all your iPod’s content via the steering wheel and MMI controls as well as the instrument cluster display and Nav screen is absolutely perfect on this car, so that makes this offering even more exciting. Feel free to check it out and let us know if you have any questions!

2point5 - flush.dock

From tunertricks.com February 19, 2008. We have a product over here at 2point5 that really doesn’t get near the attention that it should, as we haven’t really necessarily explained what it is and what it does…I thought now was as good a time as any to explain the versatility of the flush.dock in vehicles that we may not necessarily have a specific spec.dock model for.The flush.dock is essentially a drop-in iPod/iPhone dock for any vehicle application where there is sufficient space for its diminutive size to fit in. The length and width when viewed from above are roughly 3″ by 1.25″, and the required mounting depth is about one inch. The flush.dock can come equipped with simple audio/video output and charging leads, or can come equipped with any manufacturers’ iPod integration cable (i.e. Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine, DICE, Dension, Neo, USA Spec, etcetera) to tie into your existing audio setup. As with all our products, the flush.dock conforms to the Apple Universal Dock Well standard, meaning that any size iPod made since 2001 (any iPod with a dock connector on the bottom) will work perfectly in the dock recess and will interface with the integrated connector. More information is available on the store, by giving us a call or dropping us an email. Please make sure to click the post title above for more full-size images, and thanks for looking!

2point5 - iPhone and spec.dock Compatible?

From tunertricks.com July 2, 2007. Over here at 2point5, we are still gathering information about exactly what the iPhone’s compatibility is with our entire line of spec.dock products, but the initial reports are looking pretty good for all of you out there who have gotten your hands on one of our innovative automotive iPod [iPhone?] docking solutions or are thinking about jumping on the bandwagon. Here’s the tentative scoop thus far:

You hop in your car with your iPhone and drop it in the dock (we have iPhone inserts available that snap into the spec.dock to cradle the phone very nicely) iphone2

…and it begins to charge while linking up with the integrated audio/control interface connected to your car. You’ll be prompted with this message:

iPhone1

Decline the invitation to enter airplane mode, and choose your playlist/song/artist/album. You’ll be listening to your music through the audio system just like you would with a docked iPod. All controls and the sound quality you’re used to should remain the same - again, we’re still gathering information, so don’t quote us just yet! When a call comes in, you’ll get caller ID displayed on the iPhone’s huge screen, the music will fade out and the ring will come through the iPhone’s speakers. Touch the iPhone’s screen to choose whether or not to answer the call. If you are paired with a Bluetooth earpiece or handsfree kit, the call will come through that device when answered. If not, the call will come through on the iPhone’s speakerphone. When the call is ended, music playback will resume with the audio fading back in, and you’re back to enjoying your music - just like on a standard iPod. No charging cables, no tacked-on phone mount, just your favorite new phone sitting pretty in a docking solution designed to blend in perfectly with your vehicle’s interior cosmetics.

Sound good? Check us out at www.specdock.com and see what’s available for your vehicle. Please call or email if you have any questions - we’re getting up to the minute information on iPhone compatibility and would like a chance to chat with you about our product before you place an order so we can pass along any new iPhone information we may have. More info to come as we get it…
